In a bid to bond with his father-in-law, the actor is said to have forked out £75,000 for him to join Bel-Air Country Club.

But 29-year-old Katie's dad Martin Holmes is apparently not a fan of the game  and the 2,000-mile trip from his Ohio home could also prove to be a problem.

Although Martin has never spoken out about Tom, 45, sources claim he was unhappy when Katie started dating him in 2005. 

Tom and Katie have been partying on a ship which contains a high level of asbestos.

It is not thought that Suri was at the party on board the Scientology cruise ship.

John Travolta is also at risk because he was at the party.

The cruise ship had a high level of the blue type asbestos.

A toxicologist told OK magazine: "This is the most dangerous type of asbestos because the fibres are smaller than the white asbestos and can penetrate the lung more easily.

"Once diagnosed with mesothelioma, the victim has six months to a year to live.

It gradually reduces lung function until the victim is no longer able to breathe and dies."

Scientologists are currently investigating the findings. Tom Cruise has not released a statement.

It is reported that Tom Cruise is in talks to play a fictional US President in a new political thriller called '28th Amendment'.

The film website Moviehole says that the Phillip Noyce-directed film tells the story of US President Ben Cahill, who discovers that a secret committee (headed by Denzel Washington's character) has controlled the US government since World War Two.

The committee assassinates those who pose a threat to it, and now Cahill's life is in danger.

The foursome have all celebrated birthdays or other functions aboard Church of Scientology cruise ship the MV Freewinds, which was recently discovered to be contaminated with dangerous levels of blue asbestos.
Toxicologist Dr. Chris Coggins says, "This is the most dangerous type of asbestos because the fibres are smaller than the white asbestos and can penetrate the lung more easily." Asbestos particles can stay dormant in the lungs for years before causing a deadly cancer called mesothelioma.
Dr. Coggins adds, "Once diagnosed with mesothelioma, the victim has six months to a year to live. It gradually reduces lung function until the victim is no longer able to breathe and dies."

American actor Tom Cruise has suffered a huge blow with the news that his next big film ‘Valkyrie’ has been postponed until 2009.

The movie, which tells the story of the 1944 assassination plot against Adolf Hitler, had first been postponed from this summer to the autumn and it is now not expected to appear until next year.

“We were originally expecting the film to be released in June,” Times Online quoted a senior executive at one of Britain’s leading cinema chains, as saying.

“I know there have been all sorts of problems with this production and we will not be screening it at all this year,” the executive added.

The film has not only dealt a blow to the actor, but also his more recent incarnation as a movie mogul at United Artists (UA), the studio, which made the film.

A critic in Hollywood has declared, “Valkyrie is dead”, and another has stated that the film’s problems could also wreck the revival of UA.

Cruise, whose earlier career saw hit after hit with Top Gun, Rain Man and Jerry Maguire, is a stakeholder in UA, which was originally founded by Charlie Chaplin and other stars.

It has since passed through several different owners until Cruise re-launched it as a major studio in 2006.

Valkyrie has been directed by Bryan Singer, who is best known for The Usual Suspects and X-Men.

The new film, which was mostly shot last year at a cost of 45m pounds, has so far left test audiences unimpressed.

But it seems the celebrity couple was not only there to enjoy the football.

With David Beckham on the pitch and Victoria away on fashion duties, Cruise and Holmes appeared to have been roped into babysitting for their celebrity friends.

It has emerged that the 45-year-old actor is in talks to star in a fourth instalment, and that Sumner Redstone, chair of Paramount's parent company Viacom, will not raise any objection, despite ending the company's the relationship with Cruise in August 2006. Prior to the falling out, Cruise and business partner Paula Wagner had enjoyed a lucrative 14-year deal to develop projects for the studio.
