Tom Cruise arrived in New York City Tuesday morning to visit his daughter, Suri, for the first time since ex-wife Katie Holmes filed for divorce. The actor was spotted carrying his daughter, 6, into the Greenwich Hotel, where he's staying while in town.
"He's been dying to see her," a source close to Cruise said. The father-daughter day began when the star, 50, flew in on a red-eye from Los Angeles after wrapping the shoot for his upcoming film, Oblivion. He picked up his daughter at Holmes' Chelsea apartment; but according to TMZ. Tom and Katie did not see each other. He was reportedly only there for about five minutes.
Part of their day together included Tom taking Suri to her gymnastics class at the Chelsea Piers. People magazine reports that Tom and Suri will spend "several days together" while he's in town. The last time Cruise was publicly seen with his daughter was while he and Katie were still married, when the three were out to dinner in Reykjavik, Iceland.
As far as the visits go, "Katie wants to make sure the visits are in the context of him being a parent figure," a source tells Us Magazine. "He adores Suri, but now he's afraid he won't be able to have a close relationship with her."
