Just because someone hangs out with Tom Cruise doesn't mean they have to become members of the Church of Scientology.

Reports of Cruise and his wife, Katie Holmes, trying to lure David and Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham to join the celebrity ranks of Scientology have been flooding tabloids and the Internet on an almost daily basis ever since the British babes announced they were moving to Los Angeles. 

I'm told that Cruise and Holmes have certainly tried telling the duo about the 53-year-old religion. "When Victoria and David go to Tom and Katie's for dinner or something like that, they give them literature, and there are always members of the church there," a source close to the British pair tells me.

However, it appears it won't go much further than that. The Beckhams have no plans to become Scientologists, my source says. "Victoria laughs about it," the source reports. "She's like, 'Just because we're friends doesn't mean it's about Scientology.' "

Can the friendship last if the Beckhams don't become Scientologists? It's hard to tell. While Scientologists reportedly encourage their members to socialize within their own ranks, my source points out that Cruise has plenty of non-Scientologist friends, including Will Smith, Jamie Foxx and Steven Spielberg.

A rep for Cruise and Holmes insists they are not and never have been on any sort of crusade: "Tom and Katie have never tried to encourage their friends or anyone to adopt Scientology."

For the Beckhams, TomKat is one of the few couples they actually know in the States. "Victoria is just excited about moving here," my source says. "She's looking at homes, schools and really focusing on the kids right now. She may not be carpooling with the other moms anytime soon, but she feels she could have a more normal life here."
