TOM Cruise is taking further steps to prove he's down-to-earth, filming a cameo role for the second season of the hit US television show Eli Stone.

The 46-year-old actor sparked rumours he is filming a cameo role for the series when he was seen on the Los Angeles’ set of the show, accompanied by his wife Katie Holmes and their two-year-old daughter Suri. An insider said: “Tom should appear on the second season next year.”

The show, which is broadcast on US TV network ABC, is about “a thirty-something attorney, whose name is the title of the show, begins having larger-than-life visions that compel him to do out-of-the-ordinary things”. Cruise was also visited on set by his mother Mary Lee Mapother. The Top Gun actor isn’t the only celebrity to have starred in the show. British singer George Michael appeared in four episodes of the programme when title character Eli Stone, played by Jonny Lee Miller, had a prophet-like vision.
